The Hacking Discrimination Ideathon is intended to provide a mechanism for meaningful dialog, learning, networking and solution development. Our hope is that prototypes will be developed and commercialized to have far reaching, positive impact.
We don't think anyone can 'cure' discrimination. The issues are essentially disorders of human perception and their aggregate effects in societies. We are looking to identify pieces that we can impact and use technology to:
- Bear witness- Document instances of discrimination or direct violence that can be used for legal recourse and for future advocacy
- Connect for change- Establish mentor relationships
- Generate momentum- Get like-minded people together to work on a common cause in a tangible and interesting way to lead to mobilization, especially of young people.
The event's keynote speaker will be entrepreneur and author Randal Pinkett MS/MBA '98, PhD '01, CEO of BCT Partners and 2005 winner of The Apprentice. Randal is brilliant, accomplished, and committed to giving back. His remarks will set the tone for this event and Hacking Discrimination events to come. We have nearly 150 registrants---students and academics--from a dozen schools and company participants large and small--from Cambridge startup, Toast to GM and Google.
